WATCH: Arizona challenger insists “BJJ won’t work on him”

A recent video clip has surfaced on social media, showing a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and MMA veteran displaying his grappling skills after being challenged by an untrained man from Arizona.

The clip has garnered a lot of attention due to the experienced man’s ability to effortlessly showcase the dangers of untrained grappling.

The Start of the Exchange

At the start of the first exchange, the BJJ black belt immediately drops to his behind, prompting the challenger to unwittingly jump straight into his guard.

The untrained man then places both hands flat on the black belt’s chest, which sets up the perfect opportunity for the instructor to throw his legs up for an armbar. This move quickly locks up the challenger’s arm, and he stands up in confusion.

Release of Submission

The BJJ black belt, realizing the danger that the untrained man was in, mercifully releases the submission and informs his confused opponent that “Your arm would have broken right there, so it’s already over.”

The challenger is visibly confused but takes the news of him having lost the exchange quite well before being walked through exactly why his arm could have been broken during that submission attempt.

Second Exchange

Possibly the highlight of the clip is the second attempt at an exchange, which the challenger begins by asking, “You wanna start on the ground?”

This move quickly proves to be his downfall as the experienced man ties up his legs and brings him to the mat, allowing the black belt to make a smooth transition around to the back before locking up another submission and requesting a tap.

The Importance of Training

This clip serves as a reminder of the importance of training before attempting any combat sports. Untrained challengers often underestimate the skill and expertise of experienced combat sports athletes, which can lead to severe consequences.

Final Thoughts

The BJJ black belt in this clip displayed his skills in a respectful and educational manner. He could have easily caused harm to the untrained challenger, but he chose to showcase the danger of untrained grappling in a controlled and safe manner.

This is especially pertinent in light of everything that’s happened with the infamous lawsuit recently.

It’s important to remember that combat sports should only be attempted after proper training and with the utmost respect for one’s opponents.
