Tye Ruotolo plans to return to IBJJF competition despite ONE FC deal

Tye Ruotolo and twin brother Kade Ruotolo have been the biggest young stars in BJJ.  The 20-year-old phenom has earned multiple accolades at the juvenile level, including several first-place finishes at the IBJJF championships.

Despite his success, Tye still feels like he has something to prove. While he placed second in the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi Worlds in the absolute (no weight) division, he is adamant on repairing the past and securing a championship title. Thus, he has announced that he will compete in both the 2023 IBJJF Worlds and the next ADCC.

Tye Ruotolo has made history in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) by becoming the youngest IBJJF world champion ever recently. This achievement was realized after Mica Galvao, the previous title holder, was stripped of his title due to a failed PEDs test conducted at the event.

In the final of the lightweight division at the IBJJF world championship 2022, Tye Ruotolo faced Mica Galvao in a closely contested match. The winner would have become the youngest champion ever in IBJJF history. Galvao emerged victorious by just two points when the match ended, making history and taking home the gold medal.

Following the event, it was revealed that Galvao failed a PEDs test and as a result, was stripped of his title. As the silver medalist, Tye Ruotolo was promoted to world champion and will now be recognized as the youngest one in IBJJF history.

While winning under these circumstances may not have been ideal, it is still an incredible achievement that will undoubtedly impact the legacy of the Ruotolo brothers.

Tye’s brother, Kade, also made history in 2022 by becoming the youngest champion in the history of the ADCC.

Although Tye wasn’t able to make it past the opening round of his division, he redeemed himself in the absolute division, taking home a bronze medal after defeating several larger opponents.

Together, the Ruotolo brothers have made significant breakthroughs at the sport’s two most significant grappling events. Their success sets the stage for what promises to be a promising career.

Tye Ruotolo has wins over Garry Tonon and Marat Gafurov at ONE FC grappling. He hopes to continue his winning streak against Reinier de Ridder at ONE FN 10 on Prime Video.
