Brawl Erupts at Massachusetts Kowloon Restaurant, Police Launch Felony Investigation

A bustling Thanksgiving Eve at Kowloon Restaurant in Saugus, Massachusetts took an unexpected turn as a wild brawl unfolded, transforming the popular eatery into a chaotic scene reminiscent of an amateur WWE match. The incident, now under felony investigation, left at least one man bloodied.

The altercation, captured in videos posted on social media, showcased patrons engaged in a physical altercation, throwing punches in the midst of what was supposed to be a festive evening. In one video, a man, his face bloodied, found himself in a headlock, while attempts to intervene by two women were disrupted by the shattering of a glass bottle over the scuffling men.

Saugus Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli expressed dismay, stating, “The Kowloon is a family-friendly restaurant; unfortunately, a few unruly patrons ruined a nice evening for many others. A disturbance such as this on Thanksgiving Eve is unacceptable and disgusting.”

Quick response from six Saugus police officers managed to deescalate the brawl, with one officer seen tackling a participant in a bid to restore order. Massachusetts state troopers were called to the scene later to disperse the crowd after the decision was made to close the bar and restaurant early.

Kowloon Restaurant, situated approximately 11 miles Northeast of Boston, boasts a 1200-seat capacity and is celebrated as “one of the premier multi-concept dining establishments in the United States.” The venue is particularly popular on Thanksgiving Eve, drawing large crowds eager to partake in the festivities.

Owner Bob Wong, reflecting on the incident, remarked, “When I heard that it was on social media and all the people who were watching it, I was like, Oh my god, I guess that’s the good and bad of being popular.”

The brawl unfolded shortly after the restaurant shared images of enthusiastic patrons lining up outside. The aftermath saw police detaining and questioning several individuals involved in the altercation. While no arrests have been made, the deployment of a glass bottle during the brawl has prompted authorities to initiate a felony investigation.

This unexpected episode has prompted a broader discussion on the challenges faced by popular establishments during peak times and the need for enhanced security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons.
