Texas murder suspect attacked by victim’s family during court proceedings

During a court hearing in San Antonio, the family of a murdered Texas teen brutally attacked the alleged killer, Victor Nathaneal Rivas, igniting a massive brawl that unfolded in front of the bench. The incident occurred while Rivas awaited his trial for the murder of 15-year-old Ethan Soto, who tragically lost his life in a shooting in May 2022.

The chaos erupted when Rivas made a provocative gesture towards the grieving relatives of Ethan Soto present in the courtroom. In response, one of Soto’s male family members leaped over the railing and began assaulting the accused murderer. Soon after, three others joined the fracas, resulting in a tumultuous 30-second melee that took place in front of a group of inmates.

Amid the pandemonium, two court bailiffs swiftly intervened, separating the brawling parties. Following this unsettling incident, court officers decided to clear the gallery and remove the inmates from the courtroom to restore order.

Fortunately, Victor Rivas, the alleged murderer, sustained only minor injuries during the altercation, as reported by his attorney, Adam La Hood. However, the four relatives of Ethan Soto, comprising two men and two teenagers, faced immediate arrest and were subsequently charged with assault and disruption of court proceedings.

Victor Rivas stands accused of killing Ethan Soto as an act of revenge, allegedly stemming from an incident where the younger teen reportedly robbed THC cartridges from Rivas. Rivas, deeply angered by the theft, purportedly fired shots at Soto’s family home in retaliation. Notably, the 15-year-old emerged unharmed from the shooting.

In an attempt to resolve the escalating tension between the two teenagers, Soto’s mother arranged to meet Rivas for payment related to the stolen cartridges. However, Rivas denied this interaction. Instead, he reached out to an underage girl via Instagram, asking her to arrange a drug deal with Soto. During their conversation, Rivas emphasized his intent to find the person who had robbed him and seek retribution when he encountered him, according to the arrest affidavit.

Subsequently, a meeting was arranged between the girl and Soto for a drug deal involving the stolen cartridges. Tragically, Soto was ambushed by Rivas, who opened fire on the teenager. Soto sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
