McDonald’s worker throws drink at a customer before other workers join in throwing food

A wild incident unfolded at a McDonald’s in central Sydney, reportedly triggered by a teenage customer sneaking behind the counter to confront the staff.

The incident shows an intense exchange of food and drinks being thrown between the staff and the customer. However, further details have emerged, revealing the customer’s disruptive behavior prior to the incident.

McDonald’s acknowledges the inappropriate response from its employees and has launched an investigation into the incident, prioritizing the safety and well-being of its workers and customers.

According to a McDonald’s spokesperson, the viral video only reveals a portion of the story. Prior to the exchange, the customer had entered the restaurant and proceeded to disrupt the kitchen while issuing threats to the crew.

‘The behaviour of our employees in this video is not in accordance with our policies, and we are looking into this with the restaurant,’ the spokesman added.

‘The health and safety of our people and customers is our top priority.’

‘Anti-social behaviour is not tolerated in our restaurants and we expect our people to be treated with respect at all times.’

‘We will always do our best for our customers, but we won’t accept abuse, intimidation, threats or violence towards our employees.’

‘Police were called to assist, and we are supporting employees involved.’

The video captures the moment a staff member throws a drink at the customer’s face, prompting a retaliation involving chips, drinks, and other items being hurled back and forth.

While acknowledging the customer’s disruptive behavior, McDonald’s emphasizes that the employees’ reaction in the video does not align with the company’s policies. Consequently, the incident will be thoroughly investigated in collaboration with the respective restaurant.

McDonald’s is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for its employees and will not tolerate abuse, intimidation, threats, or violence.

McDonald’s has extended its support to the employees involved in the incident. Recognizing the need to ensure the well-being of its staff, the company has contacted the authorities, resulting in the arrest of two teenagers, aged 17 and 15, for assaulting a 23-year-old McDonald’s employee.

The matter is being handled under the Young Offenders Act.

The video, initially shared on social media, elicited diverse responses from viewers. Some condemned the customer’s actions, emphasizing the young age of many McDonald’s employees and their vulnerable position.

Others found humor in the situation, praising the employee who executed a well-aimed drink to the customer’s face. The incident attracted significant attention and sparked discussions about appropriate behavior and respect towards service workers.
