WATCH: Tensions Flare as Pro-Choice and Pro-Life Students Clash

In a dramatic showdown outside the University of Manchester’s student union, tensions escalated as pro-choice protesters clashed with their pro-life counterparts.

As the clash unfolded, vivid images captured the two student groups carrying placards in the midst of a heated altercation. Surprisingly, the dispute escalated to a full-blown physical confrontation.

Male students were engaged in aggressive exchanges while onlookers cheered them on.

Videos depicted law enforcement officers observing as pro-life activists exited the building, met with chants of ‘shame on you.’ Subsequently, officers intervened in order to attempt to disperse the rival crowds and restore order to the chaotic scene.

Some protesters concealed their identities with face coverings and hoods and were seen pushing against a wall of officers. A moment of tension captured an officer being heckled by an enraged protester who was shouting, ‘Abortion is not an opinion.’

Amidst the turmoil, female students voiced concerns regarding the Manchester Pro Life Society. It was founded on January 11, with an all-male leadership team.

A petition amassing over 16,000 signatures calls for the society’s closure. A female student claimed that the student union was ‘enabling misogynistic hate speech’ and compared the society’s founding to ‘the beginning of a Margaret Atwood novel’ in an interview with the Independent.

In addition to its stance against abortions, The Pro Life Society advocates against other threats to life, including assisted suicide, capital punishment, and the impact of poverty and substandard living conditions.
