An infuriated customer at a California Subway outlet became extremely enraged after employees declined his request for additional meat on his sandwich. The incident resulted in the store manager suffering potentially lasting injuries and being unable to continue her duties.
General Manager Monique Larios was summoned to the Madera, Calif. branch on May 1. This was following a confrontation between her staff and a customer over the quantity of ham in his sandwich.
As reported by KFSN, the customer was identified as George Sandoval. He contended that he had paid for twice as much meat as what was really on the sandwich.
Sandoval insisted on having 12 extra slices of ham added to his sandwich instead of the 6 extras he had paid for. However, the store countered and presented evidence of his specific order that he had placed.
In a surprising turn of events, Sandoval went around the counter and physically assaulted Larios.
Recalling the incident, Larios expressed disbelief. She told the news outlet: “I did not expect it. He came around the corner and I said, ‘What are you going to do, hit me over ham?’ And he hit me. He punched me and all I could remember is just black.”
Given the considerable size difference between Larios and Sandoval, she found herself at a significant disadvantage.
She stated: “I’m 4-foot-11 and this guy was 6-foot-5 and almost 400 pounds.”
Amidst the chaos, a quick-witted customer intervened and physically removed Sandoval from Larios.
Interestingly, the customer had a good approach and tried to neutralized the massive opponent with BJJ however due to technical insufficiency the man got shaken off and proceeded to have a ‘stand and bang’ stand off with the disgruntled customer.
This courageous individual leaped on Sandoval’s back and punched him in the face at least three times. This enabled the Subway workers to flee safely behind the counter.
Following the altercation, Sandoval was apprehended and charged with battery later that day.
The police talked about how Sandoval treated the employees. Madera Police Sgt. Brent Cedarquist stated: “Never. They went behind the counter, I believe, and punched the female manager.”
Larios said her injuries have caused her to stay away from work for more than a week after the incident, which has placed a burden on her family’s finances.
She wrote on her GoFundMe page: “I have missed worked for over a week, I am a single mom and depend on every paycheck to keep me afloat. Due to my eye being swollen shut and not being able to drive I have not been able to work, I hate to ask for help but I have no other choice I am falling behind on my bills.”
