WATCH: Two men brawl in mid-air aboard Southwest Airlines flight

Recently, a video footage released capturing a heated mid-air brawl between two passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight headed to Hawaii.

Passengers on the flight from Oakland, California, found themselves in the midst of an unexpected spectacle as two men engaged in a physical altercation high above the Pacific Ocean. The chaos unfolded mid-air, prompting fellow travellers to intervene.

Amidst the escalating tension, desperate pleas from passengers resonated that urged the brawlers to cease their confrontation. One of the brawling passengers was manhandled and physically removed from the altercation.

After arriving in Hawaii, both individuals were apparently taken into custody.

The video shows one of the guys giving the other a light smack on the face, but it’s unclear what started the brawl. A flurry of punches followed the slap, with some going straight for the other man’s face.

The first guy is hit in the jawline with a series of strikes. As the enraged passenger stops for a moment, others grasp his arms and tell him to stop.

As the passengers are progressively separated, one attacker could be heard encouraging the other to “get over here.”  A worried-looking passenger could them be heard telling him that it wouldn’t be worth it.

The escalating hostility saw a resolution when a passenger wearing a blue hoodie successfully subdued the aggressor. Firmly instructing him to ‘just stop,’ the peacemaker guided the disruptive passenger to the rear of the plane.

The altercation started about an hour after the airplane left California, witnesses told Hawaii News Now.

Accounts from witnesses onboard shed light on the timeline of events. According to passenger Jim Wieder, the altercation erupted approximately an hour into the flight.

He said: “I heard yelling, screaming and punches. I turned around and saw one man bleeding and then the other man being separated. Frankly, I was a little nervous because we’re 35,000 feet and you’ve got two guys swinging at each other, which makes no sense whatsoever.'”

Even though disagreements in midair often lead to emergency landings, the pilot chose to proceed and land in Kauai.

Upon arrival, both men involved in the altercation were detained by local authorities. The reason behind the brawl and the potential legal consequences remain unclear.

Southwest Airlines released a statement acknowledging the professionalism of their crew and passengers in handling the situation. They stated: “We commend our Crew and Customers for their professionalism in diffusing this situation. The flight landed safely at its scheduled destination, and local authorities met the flight upon arrival.”
