A video recently surfaced on social media. It shows the moment a guy was attacked at night, strangled, and left there asleep on the pavement.
The video seems to show a bunch of young men taking issue with another individual who is wearing a white shirt on York St. in Sydney’s central business district.
The footage begins with a young man pushing the individual in the white shirt, initiating a verbal exchange. Things quickly escalate as another man sneaks up from behind, wrapping his arm around the man’s neck.
The victim visibly struggles, wincing in pain as the assailant tightens his grip. The group eventually moves away, leaving the scene with the victim seemingly unconscious on the pavement.
A spokeswoman from the NSW Police confirmed awareness of the incident that transpired on York St on a Saturday night.
According to her statement on Sunday: “About 10pm last night, police were called to a licensed premises, Sydney after reports of an assault. Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and spoke to a 33-year-old man who had reportedly been assaulted during an altercation with a group of males”
The assaulted man is currently suffering from facial injuries. He was promptly transported to St Vincent’s Hospital for necessary medical attention. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The video was posted on the Sydney subreddit, and has elicited strong reactions from social media users. As the graphic footage circulates online, concerns about the safety in Sydney’s CBD are expressed.
One user said: “Just another night in Sydney. I don’t go out in the CBD ’cause you just see this s**t all the time.”
Another user emphasized the importance of surveillance. He stated: “Hopefully lots of CCTV for the police to make quick decisions.”
