UFC’s Bobby Green complains grapplers are watering down the UFC brand

UFC lightweight contender Bobby Green recently voiced his criticism of the grappling-heavy style that some fighters employ in MMA. In an interview, Green stated that he feels the prevalence of wrestling and jiu-jitsu is making the sport less exciting.

“The tough guys work me. Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal. Like guys like that that we scrap, we bring a fight,” Green said. “Now I feel like nowadays you got guys like, that Chimav dude, Islam (Makhachev). Those guys are doing wrestling matches and it don’t feel like a fight to me, feel like a match, you know, I’m not watching somebody go in there and just went, Hey, I’m going to get you to show, yo, I’m going to see this.”

Green went on to explain that he prefers the striking-focused approach of fighters like Diaz and Masvidal, as opposed to grappling-heavy stars like Khamzat Chimaev and Islam Makhachev.

“Watch when I shoop this mofo’s ass. And I mean, yeah, kick his ass. You know, like it’s watered down to the brand,” Green said.

The 36-year-old Green clearly favors the striking aspect of MMA. He believes grappling-centric fighters are making the fights less entertaining for fans.

Green is scheduled to face Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night on April 16th. He will look to bounce back from a submission loss to Rafael Fiziev in his last bout.

UFC veteran Jim Miller (37-17 MMA, 26-16 UFC) will face fellow veteran Bobby Green (31-15-1 MMA, 12-10-1 UFC) at the historic UFC 300 event on April 13.

Miller, aged 40, has won five of his last six fights, most recently defeating Gabriel Benitez at UFC Fight Night 235. Green, aged 37, has been scheduled to fight Miller three times previously, but all bouts were canceled due to Green’s withdrawals.

Pending any unforeseen circumstances, Jim Miller will become the only fighter in UFC history to compete at UFC 100, UFC 200, and UFC 300, showcasing his longevity in the sport since joining the UFC roster in 2008. The UFC 300 lineup also includes notable matchups such as Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway for the BMF title at Lightweight, Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan for the strawweight title, and Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan, among others. Notable matchups on the UFC 300 card include Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic, Calvin Kattar vs. Aljamain Sterling, and Cody Brundage vs. Bo Nickal, promising an action-packed event for fans.
Despite being scheduled to fight each other three times in the past, Jim Miller and Bobby Green have yet to face off in the octagon, adding anticipation to their upcoming bout at UFC 300.
