UFC Champ Alex Pereira gets promoted to BJJ Black Belt after R1 KO win over Jamahal Hill

In a monumental showdown at UFC 300, Alex Pereira successfully defended his light heavyweight championship against Jamahal Hill in a thrilling encounter. The highly anticipated main event of the evening showcased the return of former titleholder Hill, marking a significant moment in UFC history.

Hill, a formidable contender, had faced adversity with an Achilles injury that momentarily halted his reign as the light heavyweight champion. On the other hand, Pereira, known for his dominance in multiple weight classes, aimed to solidify his status as the reigning 205lb kingpin.

As the bout commenced, both fighters engaged in a tactical exchange, initially testing each other’s range with leg kicks. Hill showcased his striking prowess by targeting Pereira’s body and delivering a powerful right hand. However, the encounter evolved into a strategic chess match, with footwork playing a crucial role in maneuvering for advantageous positions.

Despite a brief interruption due to a low kick landing on Pereira, the champion displayed resilience by declining to take a moment to recover, underscoring his unwavering determination. Moments later, Pereira stunned the audience with a devastating left-hand strike, swiftly incapacitating Hill and compelling the referee to intervene. With a flurry of hammer fists sealing the victory, Pereira asserted his dominance and secured the first defense of his title in emphatic fashion.

The official result declared Alex Pereira the victor, defeating Jamahal Hill by knockout in the first round at 3 minutes and 14 seconds.

Despite the lack of grappling in the main event, Pereira was promoted to the rank of BJJ Black belt prior to receiving another belt from UFC president Dana White.

Pereira expressed the desire for a quick turnaround in Rio De Janeiro in May at Heavyweight. Dana White was dismissive of his move to heavy weight so it’s unclear if the promotion wants to facilitate such a quick turn around.
