Rener Gracie: Loose shorts saved Tsarukyan from getting submitted by Oliveira

Arman Tsarukyan’s recent victory over Charles Oliveira at UFC 300 has shaken the lightweight division, positioning him as the new #1 contender. This clash marked Oliveira’s return to the octagon after his defeat to Islam Makhachev, with hopes of securing a win to reignite his pursuit for a title shot. However, it was Tsarukyan who ultimately prevailed. He ended up claiming the spot as the top contender in the division.

In the first round of the bout, Charles Oliveira swiftly maneuvered into position. He secured a tight choke hold on Arman Tsarukyan. Despite the precarious situation, Tsarukyan showcased remarkable resilience and ended up slipping out of Oliveira’s grasp.

A similar scenario unfolded towards the match’s conclusion as Oliveira attempted another choke, only to be saved by the bell. Renowned Gracie Jiu-Jitsu founder Rener Gracie dissected these sequences in a detailed Instagram breakdown video.

Rener Gracie provided insightful analysis, attributing Tsarukyan’s escape from the chokes to tactical adjustments. He humorously remarked on the first failed choke, attributing it to Tsarukyan’s loose shorts. Additionally, Gracie highlighted Tsarukyan’s effective defense against the D’Arce choke in the final round. He also emphasized on the significance of proper positioning in countering such maneuvers.

Prior to entering the octagon, Arman Tsarukyan found himself embroiled in a viral moment captured by cameras. A fan directed an offensive gesture towards Tsarukyan, triggering a swift and unexpected reaction from the Armenian. Tsarukyan rushed towards the fan, demonstrating his fiery demeanor and ended up swinging a punch at him.

Following the incident, UFC President Dana White addressed the altercation during a press conference. He also acknowledged the possibility of legal repercussions. White cautioned against inappropriate fan behavior, emphasizing the need for mutual respect between athletes and spectators.

He said: “Yeah, you might not want to hang over the things and grab people when they’re walking out…..We’re probably gonna get sued we’ll deal with that on Monday too.”

Tsarukyan clarified his actions, citing the fan’s provocation as the catalyst for his response. He also further cautioned fans not to flip him off.
