WATCH: Olympic Wrestler Tries To Submit A BJJ Black Belt

Olympic wrestler Jake Clark took on a formidable challenge – trying to defeat a jiu-jitsu black belt in a grappling match. The contrast was stark – Clark, a behemoth of a man and 10-time national wrestling champion, versus a smaller but highly skilled jiu-jitsu practitioner (Black Belt Tyler Spangler).

Right from the start of the clip, it was evident that Clark’s massive size and strength would be a decisive factor. Within seconds of the match beginning, he had his opponent pinned beneath him, applying relentless front headlocks and submissions. His opponent desperately hand-fought and used deft movements to avoid being trapped.

Clark transitioned smoothly between wrestling and jiu-jitsu techniques, at one point trapping his foe in a tight guillotine straight out of the textbook. His card-stacking pressure and grips were incredible to watch. The black belt only narrowly escaped by posting on his elbow to relieve the crushing squeeze.

While the jiu-jitsu player showed incredible defensive technique and survived numerous submission attempts, Clark’s overwhelming physicality was the deciding factor. He repeatedly passed guard, maintained dominant positions, and hunted for submissions. In the end, a perfectly timed ankle pick and tight guillotine forced his opponent to tap.

The video highlights the importance of wrestling ability in grappling arts like jiu-jitsu. Clark’s skills at taking the match where he wanted and his intensity made him a nightmarish opponent, even for a black belt. It was an awe-inspiring display of an Olympic athlete’s prowess against a highly technical grappler.
