A recent video of a security guard executing a textbook armbar has captivated fans, leading many to suggest the UFC consider signing him.
A video posted on social media has garnered significant attention. It shows a security guard at Hatton Garden employing an armbar to subdue a suspected thief. The guard’s precise technique has left viewers in awe, with the subdued individual visible only by the arm held in the submission hold.
Bystanders are seen either observing the incident unfold or continuing with their activities, unfazed by the dramatic scene.
The video quickly went viral, prompting a wave of comments from users on X. Here are some notable ones:
“Get this man a ufc contract”
“that security guard has a cauliflower ear and a Brazilian accent. you didn’t stand a chance brother”
“@danawhite get him signed”
The idea of the UFC signing someone based on their skills displayed outside the octagon is not entirely far-fetched. A notable precedent is the signing of Sean Gannon, a former Boston police officer.
Gannon caught the public’s eye after defeating the legendary brawler Kimbo Slice in an unsanctioned bout. This victory was shared widely and led to Gannon being offered a matchup in the UFC despite having a modest professional record.
Gannon’s MMA career included six fights—three amateur and three professional. Gannon made his UFC debut at UFC 55: Fury in October 2005, where he faced Branden Lee Hinkle.
Unfortunately, Hinkle’s experience proved too much for Gannon. He ended up being defeated in the first round by strikes. Despite this, Gannon’s UFC appearance is a testament to the impact of viral brawler prowess.
Kimbo Slice eventually found his way to the octagon as well. After a successful run in Elite XC, Slice transitioned to the UFC, generating significant viewership and breaking ratings records.
Kimbo Slice passed away in 2016, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most memorable competitors in both brawling and mixed martial arts. On the other hand, Gannon passed away in September of 2021.
