WATCH: Rampage Jackson talks ‘Fish Gills’, Savage Anti grappling technique he uses

UFC veteran Quinton “Rampage” Jackson showcased a savage move to deal with grappling during a recent episode of his “Jaxxon Podcast.” The former light heavyweight champion taught the savage technique, which he calls the “Fish Gill,” to his guest WWE superstar Rey Mysterio.

Jackson began demonstrating the move after his co-host Bear Degidio revealed that Rampage had previously used it on him to prevent a takedown. As Degidio went for a shot, Jackson stuck his fingers into Degidio’s throat, causing immense pain that forced him to abandon the grappling attempt.

Intrigued, Mysterio asked to experience the “Fish Gill” himself. Jackson obliged, using the same throat strike to stop Mysterio’s takedown dead in its tracks. The legendary luchador then tried the technique on Jackson and found similar success.

“The move was almost never seen in MMA or other grappling combat sports,” Jackson explained. “It is likely that Jackson made that up. But judging from how they react to the move, it may just be an effective technique in a real-life self-defense situation.”

The 45-year-old Jackson retired from MMA in 2019 after a storied career that included winning the UFC light heavyweight title by defeating Chuck Liddell in 2007. Known for his brash personality, his “Jaxxon Podcast” has become a hit by featuring unfiltered conversations with major names across combat sports.

While the “Fish Gill” is unlikely to catch on in regulated competition anytime soon, Jackson’s creative anti-grappling technique shows he’s still dropping jaws with his fight savvy years after hanging up his gloves.
