Footage has surfaced showing a controversial moment where Manchester United legend Roy Keane allegedly “elbowed” an Arsenal fan during a brawl at the Emirates Stadium.
The altercation occurred during Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United last September. Keane was covering the match as a pundit. He was seen in previously unreleased footage grabbing Arsenal fan Scott Law by the shirt and appearing to “elbow” him before bystanders intervened.
The footage follows an earlier confrontation between Keane and Law, where Law is alleged to have “headbutted” the former Ireland international. The trial is currently ongoing at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court. Law has not plead guilty to charges of common assault.
During the trial, Law’s defense team argued that CCTV footage displayed in court showed Keane elbowing Law in the face. Detective Constable Phil Dickinson is leading the case. He testified that while there may have been contact from Keane, it did not appear to be a deliberate elbow to the face.
Under cross-examination, defense barrister Charles Sherrard KC questioned the officer about the footage. He asked: “What possible explanation can there be for raising your elbow at that speed to hold someone?”
Further CCTV footage shown in court depicted Law exiting and running away from the stadium on the day of the incident. In a statement given to police, Law described the encounter as escalating from banter to aggression with Keane allegedly gesturing for him to meet outside.
A custody photo of Law from September 4, 2023, was shown in court. The picture showed an injury to his nose. The trial continues as both sides present their arguments and evidence, seeking to clarify the events of that day at the Emirates Stadium.
This unfolding case has captured the attention of football fans and the general public alike. Currently, the court is working to determine the truth behind the altercation involving one of football’s most iconic figures, Roy Keane.
