WATCH: NHL’s Evan Bouchard taps out to a RNC during game

In a tough matchup for the Edmonton Oilers, defenseman Evan Bouchard found himself in a controversial situation when Aaron Ekblad put him in a standing rear-naked choke. Despite Bouchard choking, the officials made no call on the play, which added to the Oilers’ frustrations.

Earlier in the first period, the Oilers’ momentum took a hit after forward Warren Foegele received a five-minute major and a game misconduct penalty for kneeling against Eetu Luostarinen. This penalty significantly affected the team’s performance and morale.

The Edmonton Oilers lost Game 2 to the Florida Panthers 4-1 on Monday, putting the Panthers just two games away from their first Stanley Cup championship. Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers now face a challenging situation as they head back to Edmonton for Game 3 on Thursday.

Evan Rodrigues scored twice in the third period, contributing to the Panthers’ victory. Niko Mikkola and Aaron Ekblad, who scored into an empty net, added to the tally. Sergei Bobrovsky made 18 saves following his shutout in Game 1. Anton Lundell provided two assists.

Mattias Ekholm scored the lone goal for Edmonton, while Stuart Skinner stopped 24 shots. The Oilers have a tough task ahead, as they have only rallied from a 2-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series once, during the 2006 playoffs against San Jose. Historically, teams that start the Stanley Cup Final down 2-0 have only come back to win five times out of 54 instances.

Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch reflected on the team’s effort, saying, “I think we feel that we came here and played well enough that we should have a split. It doesn’t always happen.”

The series now shifts to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4, starting Thursday, where the Oilers hope to turn the tide on home ice.
