Two tourist couples were caught on camera brawling over a prime viewing spot near the iconic Mount Everest. The incident, which occurred on June 25th, has drawn widespread attention and criticism for the sheer absurdity of the situation.
According to the reports, the kerfuffle took place at the 8848 Viewing Platform, located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The couples, believed to be Chinese, had converged on the platform with the intention of capturing the perfect selfie alongside the Everest Elevation Monument.
However, the photo-op quickly took an ugly turn as the couples began to argue over the optimal viewing positions. Tensions escalated, and soon, the two men were seen exchanging blows, with one of the women attempting to intervene and the other joining the melee.
Footage of the incident, obtained by Newsflare, shows the couples engaged in a heated physical altercation, with the men punching and grappling with each other on the platform. At one point, one of the women can be seen kicking one of the men.
Authorities from the Everest Border Police Camp eventually stepped in and separated the couples, taking all four individuals into custody for further investigation.
This incident highlights the growing issue of overcrowding on Mount Everest, which has been a concern for mountaineering enthusiasts and authorities alike. In April, China reportedly reopened the Tibetan side of the mountain to climbers, marking the first time the wonder has been accessible to alpinists since the onset of the pandemic.
Unfortunately, the surge in tourism has led to increased congestion on the mountain, which was thrust back into the spotlight last month when two Everest climbers went missing and were presumed dead due to a ridge collapse.
The brawl at the 8848 Viewing Platform serves as a stark reminder of the need for better crowd management and safety protocols on the world’s highest peak. As the popularity of Mount Everest continues to grow, it is crucial that authorities take proactive measures to ensure the well-being and enjoyment of all visitors.
