WATCH: Mets, Yankees fans throw punches, tackles in impromptu scrap

In a display of the intense rivalry between the New York Mets and New York Yankees, a video has emerged of an apparent brawl between fans of the two teams at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred after the Mets’ 3-2 victory over the Yankees in the Bronx. The footage, which circulated widely on social media, showed two female fans wearing Yankees attire grappling with each other before a larger confrontation broke out on one of the stadium’s concourses.

The situation escalated when a male fan in a Yankees jersey attempted to push one of the female combatants, prompting a Mets fan in a jersey to try and push him back. The opposing fans then engaged in pushing and shoving, with the Yankees fan removing his jersey before appearing to land a punch on the Mets fan, sending him to the ground briefly.

Another Yankees fan in a gray Aaron Judge jersey then came up and pushed the Mets fan once more, but the situation was eventually brought under control by security and other fans.

The altercation came as the Yankees have struggled in the wake of the All-Star break, having dropped four of their last six games. The Mets, on the other hand, completed a season sweep of their crosstown rivals on Wednesday night, winning 12-3 at Yankee Stadium.

While the intensity of the rivalry between the Mets and Yankees is well-documented, the team owners and league officials will likely be concerned by the outbreak of violence between the fans. Such incidents have the potential to tarnish the game’s image and create an unsafe environment for families and other spectators.

As the two teams continue their pursuit of postseason berths, both organizations will be hoping that the focus can return to the on-field action and that such altercations between fans can be swiftly and effectively addressed.
