Mighty Mouse reveals he’s been submitted more as a BJJ black belt than as a brown belt

In a recent episode of the Jaxxon podcast, MMA legend Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson opened up about his transition to competing as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. The former UFC flyweight champion, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, shared some fascinating insights into his grappling journey.

Johnson revealed that he has actually been submitted more as a BJJ black belt than he was during his time as a brown belt. This speaks to the significant jump in the level of competition he now faces as a black belt.

“It’s a different game right because you have… guys who I’m going to be facing have had their black belt since they [were] 18 years old, 19 years old,” Johnson explained. “And so granted, I have the higher level of competition, like professionalism, but when it comes to like how this is my third tournament in Jiu-Jitsu that I’ll be doing in a gi, it’s like these guys have been doing it their whole f***ing lives.”

Despite the increased challenges, Johnson expressed excitement about making his black belt debut at the upcoming IBJJF World Championships. He’s hoping to capture gold and continue proving his dominance on the mats, just as he did in the MMA cage for so many years.

The humble superstar also discussed the importance of keeping MMA and his grappling pursuits separate in his life. Rather than dwelling on his impressive fighting accolades, Johnson is focused on simply enjoying the process of training and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

“If I could be the best in the world at Jiu-Jitsu by training 5 hours a week, f*** yeah, awesome,” Johnson said. “But if I lose, I’m like ‘Oh s***, my bank account’s still good, life’s still good, I’m happy, I’m healthy.'”

Mighty Mouse’s insights highlight the immense skill and dedication required to excel at the highest levels of both MMA and competitive grappling. As he embarks on this new chapter, fans will be eager to see if the legendary fighter can add another world title to his storied resume.
