IBJJF World Champion Yatan Bueno admits he was suspended by USADA for testing positive for Nandrolone

In a candid video statement, IBJJF World Champion Yatan Bueno has revealed that he was suspended by the USADA following a failed test at the World Cup. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu star shared details about the circumstances that led to his suspension, citing a longstanding shoulder injury and the pressure to compete.

Bueno explained that during the Pan American Championship, his shoulder dislocated three times, aggravating an injury he had been managing since his purple belt days. With the World Cup approaching rapidly, he sought various treatments, including ozone therapy and physiotherapy, to recover in time for the competition.

When conventional treatments proved ineffective, Bueno made the fateful decision to receive a “deca application” on his shoulder, administered by his doctor. Despite being aware of the risks involved, Bueno proceeded with the treatment, motivated by his dream of winning the World Cup and feeling well-prepared in other aspects of his training.

The champion acknowledged that he knew the potential consequences of his actions but emphasized the extreme pressures athletes face in pushing their bodies to the limit. He stated, “I think that every athlete knows where we take our body to the extreme, and there are times that we have to end up opting for more serious cases.”

Bueno expressed remorse for his decision, admitting that he ultimately “fell in the d*ping” and received a suspension as a result. He chose to come forward with this information to be transparent with his supporters and take responsibility for his actions.

Deca-Durabolin (nandrolone) is an anabolic ste*oid used in medical settings to treat certain conditions like anemia, osteoporosis, or wasting diseases. It’s not specifically designed for injury recovery. Some users claim it reduces joint pain due to its water-retention properties, but this does not mean it actively heals injuries.

While Deca might mask pain and provide short-term relief, it does not fix underlying shoulder injuries.

The Brazilian grappler assured his fans that he would continue to fight and do his best for himself and his family, despite the current circumstances. He also acknowledged that while some may continue to support him, others might criticize his actions.

Bueno concluded his statement by thanking his supporters and promising to persevere through this challenging period in his career. The length of his suspension and its impact on his competitive future were not disclosed in the video.

USADA has yet to make a statement on this matter. They typically don’t disclose the details until a final settlement has been reached regarding the circumstances of a failed test and the time alotted for the athlete to make a complaint.
