Comedian Shane Gillis found himself on the receiving end of a friendly grappling session with UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan. The incident, which occurred last week, was revealed by Gillis during an appearance on Andrew Schulz’s podcast ‘Flagrant’ on Thursday, September 14.
Gillis, known for his stand-up comedy and podcasting, admitted to provoking Rogan into the impromptu match. “I kept messing with him,” Gillis confessed, recounting his playful taunts towards Rogan. “You can’t tap me dude. Jiu Jitsu’s not cool,” he reportedly said, attempting to goad the experienced martial artist.
Despite Gillis’ considerable size advantage – he’s a former offensive lineman for the USMA Black Knights and towers over the 5’7″ Rogan – the outcome was decidedly one-sided. “He tapped me like eight times, dude,” Gillis admitted sheepishly. “He ripped my shoulder off,” he added, describing Rogan’s dominant performance.
Fellow comedian Ari Shaffir, who witnessed the encounter, attempted to encourage Gillis. “Shane, you’re so much stronger than him, just stand up!” Shaffir reportedly shouted. However, Rogan quickly dismissed this notion, asserting his superior technique over Gillis’ strength.
When asked if he could defeat Rogan in a rematch under different circumstances, Gillis was unequivocal in his response. “No, no, absolutely not,” he stated, acknowledging Rogan’s superior skills.
This lighthearted exchange between the two entertainers highlights the respect Gillis holds for Rogan’s martial arts prowess, despite their comedic rapport. It also serves as a reminder of Rogan’s extensive background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a discipline he has practiced and promoted for many years.
