WATCH: Bodybuilder Grapples Female UFC Star and Ends Up with a Black Eye

In an unexpected training session, popular bodybuilder Julio Balestrin recently took on UFC strawweight Amanda Ribas in a friendly sparring session that didn’t quite go as planned for the muscular social media star.

The encounter, captured on video, shows Ribas patiently instructing Balestrin on proper fighting stance, striking technique, and movement. Despite his impressive physique, Balestrin struggled to coordinate the basic punches and kicks demonstrated by the professional martial artist.

As the session progressed, Ribas increased the intensity, showcasing her superior speed and skill. The turning point came when the pair engaged in light grappling. Balestrin, clearly out of his element, found himself on the receiving end of Ribas’ world-class jiu-jitsu.

The bodybuilder emerged from the encounter with a noticeable shiner, admitting he had underestimated the UFC star’s abilities. “This woman is incredible,” Balestrin commented afterward, sporting a bruised eye. “She put me to the test and showed that strength is only 10% of what it takes to be a champion in this sport.”

Ribas, currently ranked in two UFC divisions, used the opportunity to demonstrate that technique and skill can overcome size and strength advantages. The friendly sparring match highlighted the effectiveness of martial arts training for self-defense, particularly for women.

Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas are set to face off in a highly anticipated rematch at UFC Tampa on December 14, 2024, at the Amalie Arena in Florida. This clash follows their previous encounter in October 2019, where Ribas handed Dern her first professional MMA loss by decision, also at the same venue. Dern, currently ranked No. 8 among strawweights with a record of 14-5, recently bounced back from a two-fight losing streak with a decision victory over Loopy Godinez at UFC Abu Dhabi. Ribas, ranked No. 9 with a record of 13-5, is returning to strawweight after a tough decision loss to Rose Namajunas in March and a knockout win against Luana Pinheiro in November 2023.
