Musumeci backtracks Comments on Roids: If you take them you’re a super athlete – you don’t count as a regular athlete

UFC grappling star Mikey Musumeci has clarified his recent comments about PEDs in professional grappling, addressing the reaction from Gordon Ryan following yesterday’s heated remarks at the Fight Pass Invitational 9 weigh-ins.

Speaking at the press conference after his victory, Musumeci explained his stance while maintaining respect for Ryan, who had criticized him on social media earlier in the day.

“I have nothing against Gordon. He’s grown the sport tremendously and I have the utmost respect for him. We’re both from the same town in New Jersey,” Musumeci said. “What I stand for and what he stands for are a bit different, and I’m just keeping it real.”

Musumeci clarified his position on athletes who have used PEDs, stating: “If you take PEDs you’re definitely an athlete, I would just say you’re a super athlete. You don’t count as a regular athlete.”

He emphasized that his comments were more focused on the future of the sport rather than condemning past actions. “The people that took ster*ids in the past – awesome, good for you, that was your generation. Maybe you didn’t have the rules of ste**ids in your time,” Musumeci explained. “Now because it’s a new generation, take a stand and change the sport… Focus on the next generation and having kids not follow what you did hurting your body doing d*ugs.”

Despite the controversy, Musumeci revealed that Ryan had actually provided positive commentary during his match at the event. After a grueling year of training camps and multiple canceled matches, Musumeci plans to take a brief break before returning to competition, with aims to compete six times in the coming year.

Gordon Ryan didn’t mince words, once he was done with his paid commentary gig:
“PSA: the fact I was able to call little Mike’s f*ck ups like five seconds before they happened just goes to show you that he was never as good as you guys thought,” Ryan wrote in his Instagram stories. “Sucks to suck.”
