Joe Rogan: “Nothing turns you into a libertarian like jiu-jitsu”

In a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan shared interesting observations about Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s journey into martial arts, particularly his involvement in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

“Mark Zuckerberg started doing jiu-jitsu and nothing turns you into a libertarian like jiu-jitsu,” Rogan remarked during the conversation. He elaborated on how the martial art fundamentally shapes one’s character and worldview.

According to Rogan, jiu-jitsu instills unique values in its practitioners. “Nothing turns you into a person who like really values hard work and discipline and struggle like jiu-jitsu,” he explained. The podcast host emphasized that the sport reveals aspects of character in ways that other activities cannot match.

What makes jiu-jitsu particularly distinctive, Rogan suggests, is its capacity for character development. “Because you expose character in a way that it’s almost impossible even with other martial arts,” he noted. He went on to explain that other martial arts have different limitations in terms of practice intensity and duration.

Zuckerberg’s involvement in jiu-jitsu has been well-documented, with the tech mogul recently participating in his first tournament. This connection between martial arts training and personal philosophy adds an intriguing dimension to the Meta CEO’s public persona, suggesting that his sporting pursuits may be influencing his perspectives beyond the mat.

Mark Zuckerberg talks going anonymous at his first jiu-jitsu tournament

Zuckerberg recounted how he was hesitant to compete initially, watching a colleague from his Meta executive training group successfully participate in a tournament. This inspired his competitive spirit, prompting him to sign up – but with a twist.

“I rolled into this tournament and registered under my first and middle name so people didn’t know who I was. I had sunglasses and a hat and I wore a CO mask,” Zuckerberg explained.

His stealth approach was so effective that even his opponent was shocked when his true identity was revealed. According to Zuckerberg, it wasn’t until they called names to step onto the mat that he removed his disguise.

“It wasn’t until they called our names to step onto the mat that I was like, ‘All right, take all the stuff off,’ and the guy was like, ‘Whoa,'” he recalled.
