Grappling superstars Ffion Davies and Adele Fornarino are set to headline UFC FPI 10 in what promises to be a landmark event for women’s combat sports.
Davies, fresh off her victory over Mackenzie Dern at the Craig Jones Invitational, has been making waves not only with her performances but also as a vocal advocate for women’s equality in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Welsh sensation has been particularly outspoken about fair representation and compensation for female athletes.
“For a long time, I come from a Judo background, and it was heavily male-dominated, with no female coaches and often being told that certain throws weren’t for girls,” Davies shared in a recent interview. “It just shouldn’t be the case because women are brilliant, and it’s not just Jiu-Jitsu. We need a platform for them.”
Her opponent, ADCC champion Adele Fornarino, has been making her own impact on the sport, recently sharing valuable insights about training dynamics between men and women in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu during an appearance on Andre Galvao‘s podcast.
Both athletes have consistently demonstrated their technical prowess and commitment to elevating women’s status in the sport. Davies recently emphasized this point, stating:
“If you’re going to talk about fair pay, who is suffering the most? It’s the girls, and it’s not deserved. We bring the heat, we have brilliant Jiu-Jitsu, and people love to watch.”
The matchup represents a significant milestone in the evolution of women’s grappling, bringing together two of the sport’s most accomplished practitioners. With both athletes known for their technical expertise and competitive spirit, fans can expect an exhibition of high-level grappling when they meet in the cage.
The event marks another step forward in the growing recognition of women’s divisions, following recent developments such as the ADCC’s decision to match prize purses across gender divisions. As Davies noted:
“We’ve just made history, and it’s super exciting, and I think it’s going to make a huge change.”
