BJJ Black Belt Roli Delgado Issues Statement Distancing Himself from Bryce Mitchell’s Comments Amidst Controversy

BJJ black belt and coach Roli Delgado has issued a formal statement distancing himself from UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell following the fallout from Mitchell’s recent controversial remarks on the debut episode of his podcast, “ArkanSanity.” Delgado, who has been featured on the episode with Mitchell as a coach and mentor, acknowledged his mistake in publishing their conversation and expressed regret over his role in amplifying Mitchell’s extreme views.

Delgado’s Statement

“Publishing the conversation between Bryce and myself was a huge mistake. Bryce has extreme views and says crazy things so often that I was desensitized to the full gravity of some of the statements. I disagreed with him as I often do, however, I still take responsibility for promoting the conversation. I don’t agree with any type of hate, whether it is for religious, racial, cultural, or s*xual reasons. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from the consequences of that speech, and he is experiencing that—as am I—by association and for promoting the conversation. I’m deeply sorry to people that I’ve let down or affected by this.

Additionally, I would like to apologize for not posting this sooner. I mistakenly thought disagreeing with him in the conversation itself was clear; however, I realize that it wasn’t enough, and I want to take responsibility for that as well.

Finally, although his statements were hateful to many, I know Bryce to have a loving heart and that he has always welcomed all races, religions, and s*xual preferences onto the mat and into his home gym. I know he isn’t a N*zi, even with what he said. I don’t agree with any hate, including N*zis.”

Background on the Controversy

The controversy erupted following Mitchell’s inflammatory statements during his podcast, where he made contentious claims about historical events, religion, and prominent public figures. Among his most polarizing remarks, Mitchell compared Elon Musk to Adolf Hitler, argued that Hitler was “for freedom,” and downplayed the WWII war crimes. He also espoused extreme biblical literalism, rejecting evolution and modern science, while advocating for Christian conversion as his life’s mission.

Mitchell’s comments triggered widespread backlash, prompting Delgado to clarify his position and disavow any alignment with such views.

Mitchell’s Podcast

The first episode of “ArkanSanity” covered a broad range of topics, but several key themes emerged that drew scrutiny:

  • Christian Fundamentalism: Mitchell emphasized his belief that the Bible is literally true, claiming that scientific theories like evolution and the Big Bang are false. He argued that public education is “run by the devil” and should instead teach biblical history.
  • Conspiracy Theories on Ancient History: He claimed that biblical giants built the Egyptian pyramids using “resonating technology.”
  • Political Commentary: Mitchell recounted attending Donald Trump’s inauguration, meeting celebrities like Conor McGregor, and offering a prayer over McGregor, which he believed had a supernatural effect.
  • Defense of Conor McGregor: He asserted that allegations against McGregor were part of a spiritual attack due to McGregor’s Christian faith and political aspirations.
  • Contentious Remarks on Elon Musk and Hitler: Mitchell argued that Musk seeks to “control” people, whereas Hitler “wanted to free his people.” He further claimed that Hitler was misunderstood and that the Holocaust was exaggerated, remarks that fueled the strongest backlash.

Mitchell’s Response and Future Implications

Mitchell has yet to issue a formal apology or clarification regarding his remarks, and his stance remains defiant despite mounting criticism. His podcast, designed as a platform to express his fundamentalist beliefs, appears poised to continue generating controversy with future episodes.

Meanwhile, Delgado’s statement serves as an attempt to mitigate his own association with Mitchell’s rhetoric. While acknowledging their personal relationship and history as coach and student, Delgado has made it clear that he does not share or endorse Mitchell’s views.

Where Does This Leave Delgado?

Despite his efforts to distance himself, Delgado may still face criticism for his initial involvement in sharing the conversation. Whether his apology will satisfy detractors remains to be seen. What is certain is that the incident has placed him in an uncomfortable position, forcing him to publicly address his relationship with Mitchell and clarify his own values amid the storm of controversy.

Delgado has since turned off comments on his statment. Mitchell has deleted the podcast off of his youtube.
