It takes a certain level of lack of sportmanship to tap out—only to immediately turn around and sucker punch the guy who let you up. Yet, that’s exactly what a young Shara Magomedov did, and it speaks volumes about his character.
A recently resurfaced video shows a 19-year-old Shara Magomedov in a grappling exchange where he’s forced to tap out. Instead of taking the loss like a man, he springs up and attacks his opponent, blindsiding him with a cheap shot. The lack of sportsmanship here is staggering, but there are unwritten rules—respect, honor, and taking your losses without resorting to thug behavior. Clearly, Shara never got that memo.
This incident is just one of many that highlight his complete disregard for integrity. Fans weren’t exactly surprised to see this footage emerge, as Shara has built a reputation for questionable actions both inside and outside the cage. One of the most infamous incidents involved him attacking a man simply because he kissed his wife in public on the cheek. Apparently, in his world, minding your own business is a crime, but sucker punching people like a spineless clown is perfectly acceptable. Even after the backlash, he doubled down and claimed he did the right thing—further proof of his delusional self-righteousness.
The MMA community is understandably fed up with this nonsense. Many have lost in devastating fashion but walked away with their dignity intact. Losing with grace is what separates true martial artists from fragile egos who can’t handle reality. As one fan put it, “There’s no shortage of examples of this guy being an absolute piece of s—.” And they aren’t wrong.
What makes this all the more hilarious is that Shara has been carefully matched up with strikers in the UFC, avoiding grapplers who would ragdoll him with ease. His ground game has already been exposed, with Bruno Silva taking him down repeatedly. The idea of him handling elite-level wrestlers is laughable.
At the end of the day, success in the UFC is as much about character as it is about skill. Shara’s record might look decent on paper, but his actions outside the cage keep reminding everyone of the type of person he really is. And after Michael “Venom” Page gave him a taste of reality, it’s clear that karma is catching up.
If the UFC wants to keep any shred of credibility, maybe they should start holding stars accountable for this kind of behavior—because rewarding a guy who sucker punches his opponents and assaults civilians isn’t a great look for the sport.
