WATCH: Ex powerlifter pulls off 4 mother’s milk submissions in one competition

In a fun display at a recent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition, Harry Whitburn, a former powerlifter turned martial artist, showcased his dominance by securing four consecutive “mother’s milk” submissions against his opponents.

Whitburn, who received his blue belt in December 2024, has been making waves in the local competition scene with a record of 14 gold medals and 3 silver medals across 14 competitions. His overall competition statistics reveal a formidable 36 wins out of 42 matches, maintaining a 45% submission rate.

The controversial technique, known as “mother’s milk” or what some practitioners call “the doom cuddle,” involves using body pressure from a dominant position to force a submission. While some critics argue it lacks technical sophistication, others defend it as a legitimate strategy.

“If you hit 4 people with this back to back that means you had a plan and you worked your plan. What more can people want?” commented one observer on social media.

One commenter playfully remarked, “I think it’s a dog s*it technique, and his instructor needs to teach him some actual Jiu-Jitsu!” – a comment that garnered significant engagement from the community.

The debate around the technique’s legitimacy continues, but as many in the community point out, “a tap is a tap.” Whitburn’s success with this particular submission strategy has certainly made an impact in the competition scene, even if it remains a polarizing topic among practitioners.

The former powerlifter’s transition to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been notably successful, with Whitburn crediting his brother for introducing him to the sport. His recent achievement of earning his blue belt at Wiltshire Grappling Academy marks another milestone in his martial arts journey.
