Craig Jones recently turned his attention to an initiative that is making a real impact in Ethiopia. Guardian Ethiopia, an extension of Guardian Gym, is providing jiu-jitsu training to homeless children who face daily struggles for survival.
In a video discussion with Guardian Ethiopia leader @linkd24, Jones sheds light on the grim reality these children endure. Without official identification, they are excluded from government services, medical care, and schooling.
Their lack of resources and support leaves them vulnerable to hunger, violence, and preventable deaths. One heartbreaking example shared was of a child who was run over by a car near the gym just two months ago—an incident that highlights the dangers of life on the streets without access to proper healthcare or emergency services.
Despite these challenges, Guardian Ethiopia is working to create a safe space where these children can find temporary relief. Currently, 16 homeless kids are training jiu-jitsu at the facility, offering them not only an escape but also a structured environment with mentorship and camaraderie. The initiative extends beyond jiu-jitsu, aiming to provide food, clothing, and other essentials to improve their quality of life.

The Bigger Picture
Through Guardian Ethiopia, jiu-jitsu is proving to be more than just a sport—it is a lifeline. With continued support from the global martial arts community, more children can receive the care and opportunities they desperately need. Craig Jones’ involvement helps shine a spotlight on this initiative, encouraging more people to contribute to a program that is changing lives, one child at a time.
