In a lighthearted moment during a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training session, UFC heavyweight Alexander Volkov was caught on camera taking a moment to adjust his hair while grappling with a significantly smaller training partner. The endearing display came after the Russian achieved his BJJ black belt in December 2023.
Volkov previously went viral for having a cornerman comb his hair in between rounds.
During his co-main event against Sergei Pavlovich in Riyadh, Alexander Volkov was caught on camera receiving hair treatment between rounds but still dominated the bout, securing a unanimous decision victory.
“I grew my hair out a little longer than I usually go into the fight, usually it’s much shorter,” Volkov said via a Russian translator at the evening’s press conference. “So because of this long hair I was forced to bring with me on the team a special stylist, let’s say a styling coach. He made sure to work hard for his money and I think he really did a great job because nothing was covering my eyes and I was able to work without any trouble.”
Afterwards, tensions flared as Pavlovich refused to shake Volkov’s hand, leading to speculation about bad feelings between the former training partners. Volkov explained that his longer hair required a “styling coach” and downplayed the feud, suggesting any misunderstanding was on Pavlovich’s side in an interview. He also revealed that his team had previously helped Pavlovich prepare for key bouts, including against Derrick Lewis, and felt he deserved more gratitude.

As for the grappling match, Volkov was able to utilize his size to get out of the guard of the much smaller man, all while adjusting his hair and would secure side control and the win in the match.
