Dillon Danis addressed his potential grappling match with Gordon Ryan and expressed interest in making it happen if the money was right.
“With Gordon, anything’s possible if they pay. That would have to be big money because I’m the only one that went after him,”
Danis said when discussing a possible matchup with the grappling champion.
While Ryan is reluctant to admit it, Danis is the only one that came close to beating him during his 2017 ADCC run – despite being undersized for the 88kg division. Danis also boasts of not taking PEDs and maintained a similar physique through most of his adulthood unlike Ryan whose appearance varies widely based on his health and admitted PED use.
After being shown a clip where Danis attempted to deflect attention from discussing a potential match with Ryan by commenting on the studio’s window backdrop, Ryan offered a candid assessment of his rival’s career.
“Dillon is like a guy that makes things happen,”
Ryan said.
“He manages to stay in the public eye, not really having any credentials or skills of any kind.”
Ryan went on to analyze Danis’s competitive record, noting
“He won Nogi Pans. He was decent at one point in jiu-jitsu. There was always a point where he was competing with the best guys, but he could never really beat the best guys. His record at Black Belt is 18 and 16.”
The two athletes have history, having faced each other at ADCC 2017, where Ryan emerged victorious. According to Ryan, their relationship has been marked by back-and-forth exchanges since then, with Danis reluctant to fully acknowledge him.
“He can’t argue with me on facts and statistics, so he just knows that if he mentions my name, if anything, I’ll get more popular because of him mentioning me,”
Ryan explained.
Despite his critical comments, Ryan maintained he harbors no ill will toward Danis, concluding,
“Nothing against Dillon. He’s just, he’s not a real athlete.”
Gordon Ryan followed that up sharing the receipts for his exchanges with Danis.
