Buchecha names Three Competitors With the best jiu-jitsu in the UFC right now

In a recent episode of the JAXXON Podcast featuring Arman Tsarukyan, Mayhem Miller, and Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida, the 13-time jiu-jitsu world champion shared his expert opinion on who currently possesses the best jiu-jitsu skills in the UFC.

When asked directly about who he believes has the best jiu-jitsu in the UFC today, Buchecha didn’t hesitate to offer his perspective.

“It’s a tough question,” Buchecha acknowledged, noting that jiu-jitsu specialists don’t always get to showcase their full abilities in MMA competition.

After some consideration, he narrowed his selection down to three standout practitioners:

“I would say between Charles Oliveira and Gilbert Burns.”

Buchecha explained that while Charles Oliveira holds the record for most submissions in the UFC, people often overlook Gilbert Burns‘ exceptional jiu-jitsu credentials. He also mentioned Raoni Barcelos as another fighter with impressive jiu-jitsu skills who deserves recognition.

“Everybody forgets that Gilbert Burns has amazing [jiu-jitsu],” Buchecha emphasized.

He added that Barcelos has been effectively demonstrating his ground skills in recent performances.

He included the current UFC Champion Alejandre Pantoja as well. Initially, Buchecha didn’t think of Pantoja due to his size.

When further pressed, Buchecha also mentioned fellow Brazilian Jailton Almeida as a heavyweight with exceptional jiu-jitsu prowess:

“Number one for me [is] Almeida from the heavyweight… Jailton, he has good jiu-jitsu as well.”

Buchecha‘s assessment carries significant weight in the martial arts community. His perspective provides valuable insight into which UFC fighters are truly excelling in the grappling department from a technical standpoint.

It’s interesting to note Buchecha didn’t mention either Rodolfo Vieira or Mackenzie Dern.
