Brown belt Sebastian Attard recently shared footage of the exact moment he suffered a severe leg injury during training.
The video, which has quickly circulated throughout social media platforms, shows Attard calmly announcing to his training partner,
“I just broke my leg,”
with an almost surreal level of composure that has left viewers both impressed and concerned.
“Tweaked my drumstick a little,” Attard later wrote in his social media post, taking full responsibility for the incident. “This was my fault, trying to stuff my foot to the mat with my toes pointed outward. No fault to my good training partner, the blame is all mine.”
What’s particularly striking about the footage is how routine the training appeared before the injury occurred. As one commenter noted,
“Didn’t even look like y’all were going hard,”
highlighting how even technical, controlled training can sometimes result in serious injuries.
The BJJ athlete’s extraordinarily calm reaction has become the talk of the community, with fellow practitioner Nathan Haddad commenting,
“Possibly the calmest way to handle breaking your leg.”
Another follower asked,
“I want to know where you got your calmness from? I like to learn that.”
This setback comes at a critical time for Attard, who was recently handed a two-year suspension from the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) following an incident during a medal ceremony where he directed a middle finger toward finalist Pawel Jaworski. While Attard reportedly intended the gesture as a lighthearted joke, the organization viewed it as unsportsmanlike conduct.
Despite these challenges, Attard appears determined to document his recovery journey, inviting followers to
“Follow me while I document the return,”
suggesting his competitive spirit remains unbroken.
The BJJ community has rallied around Attard with messages of support.
“Get well soon,” “Speedy recovery brother,” and “Bro has plot armor”
are just some of the encouraging comments flooding his post.
For practitioners of the sport, Attard‘s injury serves as a sobering reminder of the inherent risks in grappling arts, with one commenter cautioning,
“2nd broken leg I see in less than 12hrs – Y’all be careful!”
His remarkable composure in the face of injury has, as one follower put it, caused his
“aura to skyrocket”
within the community, turning an unfortunate incident into a testament to his mental fortitude.
