Mica Galvao breaks Roberto Jimenez’s Arm at BJJ Stars 15

Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom Mica Galvão secured the BJJ Stars 15 middleweight Grand Prix championship and a $17,500 prize after applying a match-ending armbar against Roberto Jimenez in the final.

The dramatic conclusion came just two minutes and thirty-five seconds into their championship bout when Galvão executed a precise submission that left his opponent with no choice but to tap out.

The final match began with Jimenez securing an early double leg takedown, but Galvão immediately threatened with a tight armlock. Though Jimenez initially escaped and gained top position, Galvão found an entry for an arm crush as his opponent moved side to side. When Jimenez attempted to scramble free, Galvão transitioned to a belly-down armbar, forcing the submission as the lock tightened.

The victory capped an impressive tournament run for Galvão, who defeated Jon Blank via points (3-0) and Elijah Dorsey via decision earlier in the bracket. Jimenez’s path to the final included wins over Izaak Michell via decision and Oliver Taza via points.

The event, held in Brazil, featured several other notable performances. Gabrielli Pessanha scored the evening’s only other submission, finishing Tayane Porfirio with a choke from the back to defend her female heavyweight title. In additional featured matches, Meyram Maquine defeated Diogo Reis in a gi match by points (11-2), and Erich Munis successfully defended his absolute title against Adam Wardzinski via points (8-2).

The middleweight Grand Prix showcased some of the sport’s most promising talent, with the 20-year-old Galvão cementing his status as one of jiu-jitsu’s brightest rising stars. His technical finishing sequence in the final match demonstrated why many consider him among the most exciting competitors in the sport today.
