Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg ran a 5k race with his jiu-jitsu teammates

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg continues to showcase his dedication to martial arts, recently participating in an annual 5K run alongside his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training partners from the Guerrilla fight crew.

“Finished a bit above 20 mins,” Zuckerberg shared on social media, adding that teammate Nick Griswold “edged me out and won his age group.” The tech billionaire concluded his post with a message of pride for his team, accompanied by a flexed arm emoji.

The run comes as Zuckerberg has gradually returned to martial arts training following ACL surgery. During a recent appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, he discussed his recovery journey after tearing his ACL while throwing a leg kick during a training session.

Despite the setback, Zuckerberg has remained committed to martial arts, which he initially took up as a stress management tool. His coach, BJJ black belt Dave Camarillo, recently described the CEO as “fully invested” and “a beast” when it comes to training.

“He shows up like Keanu Reeves. Like, I’m here to do a job. I’m all in,” Camarillo said in an interview on Eddie Bravo’s “Look Into It” podcast, where he revealed he’s been training Zuckerberg for about a year and a half.

Camarillo, who was among the participants in the 5K event, described it as “a painfully good time” on social media, thanking the team for the motivation.

The Meta CEO’s martial arts journey has reportedly gained support from his wife, Priscilla Chan. According to Zuckerberg, when he anticipated her reaction to his ACL injury, he expected her to tell him to stop training altogether. Instead, she encouraged him to return once healed, noting how much calmer and happier he seemed after training.

“She’s like, when you heal your ACL you better go back,” Zuckerberg recalled with a laugh during his podcast appearance.

Zuckerberg has previously competed in a Jiu-Jitsu tournament under a pseudonym and trains regularly with high-level partners, including UFC champions Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski, according to Camarillo.

The 5K run appears to be another example of the camaraderie Zuckerberg has found in the martial arts community, as he balances his physical pursuits with his responsibilities leading one of the world’s largest tech companies.
