In a world where most tech executives can’t function without their morning caffeine fix, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed his unconventional alternative to jumpstart his day: Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
During a recent conversation with comedian Theo Von, Zuckerberg confessed that coffee isn’t part of his daily routine, despite its ubiquity in Silicon Valley culture.
“I mean you’ve had it,” Von asked about coffee consumption, to which Zuckerberg replied, “I have sometimes on vacation I’ll drink it recreationally… it’s like every once in a while just like a celebration.”
The billionaire tech founder explained his reasoning: “I just like hate anything that messes like I don’t like any kind of chemicals or anything like that.”
When pressed about how he manages to get going in the morning without caffeine, Zuckerberg’s response was straightforward: “I wake up and I fight people.”
This revelation aligns with Zuckerberg’s well-documented passion for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a martial art he’s been training in regularly. Earlier this year, he surprised many by competing in and winning medals at jiu-jitsu tournaments.
Von’s humorous response to Zuckerberg’s caffeine abstinence captured the uniqueness of the approach: “My sister gives me such a hard time about that. She’s like ‘you’re just sitting there raw dogging reality.'”
Zuckerberg’s morning martial arts routine represents a growing trend among executives seeking physical outlets for stress management and mental clarity. While most of Silicon Valley reaches for an espresso, it seems the Meta CEO prefers to hit the mats instead.
For those looking to boost their morning energy without caffeine, Zuckerberg’s approach suggests that physical activity might be a viable alternative—though perhaps not everyone would choose combat sports as their wake-up call.
