Jasmine Jasudavicius gets promoted to BJJ Black belt in the cage at UFC 315

In a night filled with unforgettable moments at UFC 315, Canadian flyweight Jasmine Jasudavicius not only secured the biggest win of her career but also received one of the highest honors in martial arts – a promotion to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt right inside the octagon.

The St. Catharines, Ontario native showcased her grappling prowess in spectacular fashion by submitting former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade with a rear-naked choke at just 2:40 of the first round. Following the emphatic victory, her coach surprised her by presenting the black belt in front of the roaring Canadian crowd, recognizing years of dedication to the gentle art.

The bout began with Andrade applying her trademark forward pressure and targeting Jasudavicius’s legs with kicks. However, the Canadian strategically used her reach advantage to keep the former champion at bay before executing a perfectly timed takedown. What followed was a masterclass in positional control as Jasudavicius swiftly took Andrade’s back, flattened her out, and secured the submission.

At 36 years old, Jasudavicius is experiencing the most successful stretch of her career, now riding a five-fight win streak. This latest victory over Andrade follows her impressive win against former flyweight title challenger Mayra Bueno Silva earlier this year, firmly establishing her as a legitimate contender in the division.

The surprise promotion ceremony had been carefully planned by her coaching staff, who felt this moment – dominating a former champion on home soil – was the perfect occasion to bestow the prestigious rank.

While Jasudavicius didn’t name a specific opponent she wants next, this victory will undoubtedly propel her further into the division’s top 10 rankings and closer to title contention. The combination of her technical grappling skills, now officially recognized with a black belt, and her current momentum makes her one of the most intriguing challengers in the 125-pound division.
