During the latest episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan claimed he possesses greater grip strength than several UFC fighters, including rising star Bo Nickal.
The 57-year-old podcast host and UFC commentator shared his enthusiasm for a grip strengthening device with guest comedian Tom Segura, who noticed the equipment on Rogan’s desk.
“I’m obsessed with that squeeze machine,”
Rogan explained.
“I got 161 and I want to get 190… When I first did it, I got 147. I was like, ‘Well, this is bullsh*t.’ And then I got up to 161 without these things.”
During the conversation, Rogan displayed video footage of various UFC fighters testing their grip strength on a similar device. He expressed initial surprise at what appeared to be underwhelming scores from elite competitors.
Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira registered 97, while Michael Chandler scored 113. Rogan quickly noted the athletes were starting with their non-dominant hands before switching to their stronger side.
When testing with his dominant hand, Chandler’s score unexpectedly decreased to 104. Meanwhile, collegiate wrestling standout Bo Nickal recorded 153 with his weaker hand and improved slightly to 155 with his dominant hand.
These comparisons led Rogan to a bold conclusion:
“All right. So, I’m stronger than all those bit*hes. There you go. But I’m trying to get to 190,”
he declared.
The commentator, who has been with the UFC since 1997, maintains an impressive physique despite approaching his late 50s. His physical capabilities are particularly noteworthy considering he once prepared for a potential cage match against actor Wesley Snipes in 2005 – training for five months before Snipes withdrew following IRS tax issues.
Rogan, who also hosted “Fear Factor” from 2001 to 2006, has long been associated with high-adrenaline activities and physical challenges, making his competitive attitude toward the grip strength test consistent with his documented interests in physical performance.
