Tech entrepreneur and digital nomad icon Pieter Levels has announced his entry into the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Levels, known online as “Levelsio,” shared the news on May 23rd with his characteristic humor:
“Had my first 🇧🇷 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class today with @AndreyAzimov 🥵,”
accompanied by a photo showing what he described as
“the regular slightly psychotic face you get after BJJ.”
The founder who once famously launched 12 startups in 12 months has built a devoted following for his nomadic lifestyle and tech ventures. Now, he’s channeling some of that entrepreneurial energy into martial arts.
When followers suggested alternative combat sports like wrestling, Levels was quick to defend his choice:
“BJJ is kinda wrestling I think and most important martial art of our time.”
He also encouraged others considering martial arts to
“Do BJJ cause it’s the most popular so more fun if every1 does same.”
The tech community’s reaction has been largely supportive, with one follower noting that
“There’s an unwritten rule that every tech guy is destined to end up doing BJJ.”
Another commented that
“Pieter doing BJJ was inevitable.”
Some followers drew comparisons to the late Anthony Bourdain, who was also passionate about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, though Levels quickly distanced himself from the full comparison due to Bourdain’s sad demise.
When asked about other fitness trends like cold plunging, Levels confirmed he
“skipped that,”
suggesting his focus is firmly on his new martial arts training.
For many in the tech world, BJJ has become increasingly popular as a physical counterbalance to screen-focused work. As Levels joins their ranks, his followers will undoubtedly be watching to see how this new pursuit influences his already dynamic lifestyle.
