A seasoned wrestling coach with decades of experience recently stepped up to face the viral sensation behind the “$1,000 takedown challenge,” bringing his impressive credentials to the mat against Georgio Poullas.
Josh Moore, head coach at Kent State University and a two-time All-American from Penn State, became the latest high-profile athlete to attempt Poullas’ popular challenge. Moore’s wrestling pedigree is particularly noteworthy – he holds the record for most pins in a season at Penn State, a testament to his technical prowess and competitive spirit.
“I’ve been a coach for 20 years. I’ve wrestled for what, 35 years? Started wrestling when I was 7 or 8 years old, so I’ve been doing this a long time,”
Moore explained before the challenge began. His extensive background in the sport spans from childhood through his collegiate career at one of wrestling’s most prestigious programs.
When asked about his confidence level in securing the $1,000 prize, Moore displayed the measured confidence of an experienced competitor, rating his chances at “six and a half” out of ten. This assessment reflects both respect for Poullas’ abilities and confidence in his own technical skills developed over more than three decades on the mat.
The challenge has continued to attract attention from across the combat sports community, with Poullas maintaining his undefeated status despite ongoing debates about the technical criteria for what constitutes a successful takedown. His challenge series has previously drawn participation from notable figures including television personality Mario Lopez, who showcased impressive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills despite being in his fifties.
Moore joins a growing list of accomplished athletes who have tested themselves against Poullas, a former state champion wrestler who has built a significant social media following through his unique challenge format.
