In the latest chapter of one of jiu-jitsu’s most talked-about rivalries, Craig Jones has finally broken his silence on Gordon Ryan‘s scathing social media attacks following the announcement of B Team’s dissolution.
The Australian grappling star’s response reveals a man who appears genuinely puzzled by his former teammate’s continued animosity.
During a recent interview, Jones addressed Ryan‘s lengthy Instagram tirade with characteristic dry humor and surprising restraint. When asked about Ryan‘s posts celebrating B Team’s demise, Jones admitted he hadn’t even fully read them, quipping:
“I refuse to read it until he learns how to use paragraphs to be honest with you I look for the cliff notes.”
The comments paint a picture of someone who seems more bewildered than bothered by Ryan‘s public celebration. Jones expressed confusion about the underlying motivations behind Ryan‘s attacks, particularly questioning why his former teammate would be upset about his departure from Austin.
“I don’t know why he’s angry that I’m leaving his city. He’s got his gym now I’m leaving take it does he see it as some again does he see it as some kind of like victory lap or something maybe.”
What’s perhaps most striking about Jones‘ response is his philosophical take on the cyclical nature of team formations in their corner of the grappling world. Rather than engaging in the heated rhetoric that has characterized this feud, Jones offered a surprisingly mature perspective on the situation.
“It’s funny it’s like they had new wave now they have kingsway we had b team and then it’ll probably be some sort of incarnation of simple man it’s kind of like we’re kind of doing the same thing you know what i mean like so i don’t know i don’t know what the beef is.”
This observation cuts to the heart of the matter—both camps have gone through similar processes of team dissolution and reformation, making Ryan‘s triumphant tone seem somewhat hollow. Jones‘ acknowledgment of this parallel suggests a level of self-awareness that contrasts sharply with Ryan‘s public gloating.
Perhaps most significantly, Jones revealed that he has mended his relationship with John Danaher, their mutual former coach and the man at the center of the original B Team split.
“I’m trying to put the beef aside me and John Danaher we’re homies again we’re friends again.”
This reconciliation adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing drama as it suggests that the original grievances that led to B Team’s formation may have been resolved.
However, Jones made it clear that while he’s moved past his issues with Danaher, the same cannot be said for his relationship with Ryan.
“Obviously Gordon still doesn’t like me I don’t know why but nothing but complimentary towards the man.”
He highlighted the one-sided nature of the continued hostility.
The contrast between the two men’s public personas couldn’t be more stark. While Ryan‘s posts were filled with detailed accusations and celebrations of his former teammates’ struggles, Jones‘ response was measured and almost dismissive. His confusion about Ryan‘s motivations—
“Honestly I don’t even know what he means half the time”
—suggests that he views his former teammate’s behavior as more puzzling than threatening.
