WATCH: 6’7 320 Pound Bodybuilder Rolls With A BJJ Black Belt

When worlds collide in the martial arts gym, the results are often surprising. Connor Sinann recently documented one such collision at Battle Arts Academy in Mississauga Ontario where a massive 320-pound bodybuilder known as “Ernst” stepped onto the mats to test his strength against technique.

Standing at an imposing 6’7″ and weighing 320 pounds, Ernst represents the extreme end of the size spectrum in combat sports. As Connor noted, “I seriously was humbled when I met this guy. Like actually the biggest dude I’ve ever met. I’ve met Chris Bumstead. I’ve met like all the bodybuilders. Guy’s a lot bigger than all the pro bodybuilders partially cuz he’s tall.”

His opponent for the day was Amar Goame, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and one of Canada’s top competitors. At 6 feet tall and 230 pounds, Goame found himself without his usual weight advantage. “I don’t even have a weight advantage, so I’m f***ed,” he admitted before the session began. “I’ve never competed against someone that big. Definitely not that strong.”

The training session began with fundamental techniques including the basic bridge and roll escape from bottom position. Despite his massive frame, Ernst showed surprising athleticism and focus during instruction. “The best thing that you had is honestly like you can wrestle a little bit. You had a good intuition in wrestling from standing,” Goame observed after their rolls.

What made this encounter particularly fascinating was witnessing how technique fared against overwhelming size and strength. While Ernst‘s power was undeniable, the session revealed both the advantages and limitations of pure physicality in grappling. “The most surprising thing is how athletic you actually were. Like not just strong, like pretty like fast, quick,” Goame noted impressed by the big man’s mobility despite his size.

However, the session also highlighted areas where technique and conditioning matter most. Goame pointed out that Ernst‘s cardio became a limiting factor: “probably if you get your gas tank a little bit higher than like a minute, everybody’s cooked, you know, me included.”

The experience provided valuable insights for both participants. Ernst, who was recovering from surgery, demonstrated that size and strength can be formidable assets even against highly skilled opponents. Meanwhile, Goame got a rare opportunity to test his technique against someone with such extreme physical advantages.

This unusual matchup serves as a reminder that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s beauty lies in its ability to level playing fields though extreme size differentials still present unique challenges. For viewers, it offered a fascinating glimpse into what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object – or in this case, when overwhelming strength meets refined technique on the mats.
