Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Rigan Machado has officially announced that his feature film directorial debut will make its online debut on Amazon Prime Video this September 18, following a world premiere.
The announcement comes after “Blow for Blow” commanded attention at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre on April 28 where Machado’s cinematic vision drew a capacity crowd of celebrities, martial arts enthusiasts and film industry professionals. The evening showcased not only the completed film but also demonstrated the crossover appeal between martial arts mastery and storytelling craft.
“This night was filled with love all around—from friends, fans, and fellow fighters. Sharing this film with a packed house at such a legendary theater was truly unforgettable,” Machado reflected on the premiere experience.
The red carpet event featured an impressive roster of attendees including actor Jeremy Sumpter known for “Friday Night Lights” and “Into the Storm,” UFC star Mackenzie Dern, action veteran Patrick Kilpatrick, MMA referee Mike Beltrán, “CSI: Miami” actress Sofia Milos and martial artist-actor Michael Jai White. The legendary Machado Brothers—Jean Machado, John Machado, Carlos Machado and Rigan Machado—were present to support the family’s venture into filmmaking.
Machado’s transition from martial arts instruction to film direction represents a natural evolution for someone deeply embedded in both physical and narrative storytelling. The project, written by Gustavo Sarkis and co-produced by Rafaela Gonçalves and Milena Rimassa, centers on a former gangster who has rebuilt his life as a chef but must confront his past to protect his son.
The film’s cast includes Jean Machado, John Machado, Caleb Caldwell, Andreas Contogouris, Rafaela Gonçalves, Carolla Parmejano, Paulo Costa, Yasamina Kabisch, Cezar Galvão and Tomm Voss, blending established martial artists with emerging acting talent.
Presented through Insurgence and Iris Indie Entertainment, “Blow for Blow” promises to deliver the authentic martial arts expertise that only someone of Machado’s caliber could bring to cinema. The premiere event featured live martial arts demonstrations, adding an interactive element that distinguished it from typical Hollywood screenings.
The September 18 Prime Video availability will allow audiences worldwide to experience Machado’s directorial vision, marking a significant milestone for independent action cinema and demonstrating how martial arts masters can successfully translate their expertise into compelling visual narratives.
