During a recent appearance on the Mighty Cast, the controversial BJJ black belt and Misfits Boxing MMA champion confirmed that negotiations are underway for what could be one of the most unique matchups in recent memory.
Danis, who currently holds the Misfits 170-pound championship belt, revealed that the Eddie Hall bout
“is there which is crazy. He’s 465 pounds but I think it’s going to happen.”
This massive size discrepancy – with Hall outweighing Danis by nearly 300 pounds – would create a David versus Goliath scenario that has captured the imagination of combat sports fans worldwide.
The former World’s Strongest Man competitor has been making waves in combat sports, transitioning from his powerlifting career into boxing and mixed martial arts. Hall’s sheer size and strength present a unique challenge that even seasoned MMA stars would find daunting. At 465 pounds, Hall would be competing well above even the UFC’s heavyweight limit, making this a truly unprecedented matchup.
For Danis, this represents another opportunity to prove his skills against unconventional opposition. But Danis isn’t all in on Hall, there’s another contender in the wings, allegedly 3x UFC champion.
“The guy that we’re going to compete against next, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say it. It’s a good name for me being 3 and 0. It’s a three-time UFC world champion,”
Based on Danis’ specs, this sounds like it could be either Tyron Woodley or Chris Weidman. Benson Henderson is also a remote possibility considering he’s competed under the Misfits banner already. Weidman might be the least likely due to the fact he was a middleweight and Danis is already somewhat undersized for welterweight.
Woodley captured the welterweight crown at UFC 201 and went on to defend it four times against Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, and Darren Till, before finally losing to Kamaru Usman. In the middleweight division, Weidman dethroned Anderson Silva at UFC 162, defended the belt in their infamous rematch when Silva broke his leg, then beat Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort before falling to Luke Rockhold. At lightweight, Henderson carved his legacy through three consecutive defenses—over Frankie Edgar, Nate Diaz, and Gilbert Melendez—cementing his reign as one of the most durable champions in 155-pound history before dropping the belt to Anthony Pettis. Each of them has since left the UFC roster.
Danis teased during the interview, though he later confirmed the Eddie Hall matchup was a separate possibility.
The rules and format of a potential Danis-Hall contest remain unclear, though Danis expressed preference for straight MMA rules rather than limiting himself to boxing or other restrictive setups.
“I train my whole life to be able to do everything,”
he explained, emphasizing his desire to utilize his complete skill set rather than being confined to striking-only exchanges.
The matchup would likely take place under the Misfits banner, which has been expanding beyond boxing into MMA territory.
