Mica Galvao planning to transition to MMA in two years

Brazilian jiu-jitsu prodigy Mica Galvão has revealed his timeline for making the leap to mixed martial arts, announcing plans to transition to MMA in two years during a recent conversation with renowned strength and conditioning coach Rogerio Camoes.

The discussion, which touched on weight class considerations and physical attributes, offered fans a glimpse into the strategic planning behind Galvão’s future career move. Camoes, who famously transformed UFC star Mackenzie Dern‘s physique and conditioning, engaged the young grappler in a detailed analysis of which division would best suit his frame.

“When? In two years, but only then,”

Galvão stated when asked about his MMA timeline, keeping his plans firmly set for a two-year horizon. VFCommunica was the first to report.

The conversation quickly shifted to the critical question of weight class. Initially, Mica considered the 77-kilogram class (welterweight) but thought 70 might be a better fit (lightweight).

“I thought 77, but now I’m seeing the size of this beast, huh? I think it’ll have to be 70,”

Camoes seemed skeptical about Galvao going down in weight due to his massive reach.

“The biggest advantage is because of the reach, man. The reach of this guy is something monstrous,”

the coach observed, highlighting how the grappler’s exceptional reach could be a game-changing asset in cage competition.

The coach’s logic centered on a crucial tactical consideration: as a grappling specialist, having superior reach would make it easier for Galvão to close distance and implement his world-class ground game against opponents in the lighter weight classes.

With two years to prepare and the expertise of Camoes potentially guiding his physical transformation, Galvão’s eventual MMA debut promises to be one of the most anticipated crossovers from the jiu-jitsu world in recent memory.
