Fabricio Andrey set to face Joao Mendes at ONE FN 40

Fabricio Andrey faces Joao Mendes in a featherweight submission grappling bout at ONE FN 40. The event takes place Friday, February 13, 2026, at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, broadcasting live during U.S. primetime hours.

Andrey continues to build his reputation in ONE Championship’s grappling division, while Mendes makes his promotional debut. Both competitors enter the bout with impressive credentials, setting the stage for a highly anticipated clash.

Andrey’s two appearances under the ONE banner have showcased the dynamic style that earned him attention as a rising star. His promotional debut against Ash Williams at ONE FN 30 this past April highlighted his technical prowess, as he secured a unanimous decision victory.

His second outing carried extra significance. Eduardo Granzotto had previously defeated Andrey at the IBJJF Worlds in January, and their October rematch gave him a chance to settle the score. Andrey dominated with suffocating top control, threatening an armbar before ultimately earning another unanimous decision. His game combines powerful judo-inspired takedowns with exceptional athleticism, allowing him to advance past defensive positions and consistently threaten submissions.

Mendes enters with strong credentials of his own. The 28-year-old recently captured the 2025 IBJJF Black Belt World Championship in the featherweight division, adding to an already impressive competitive resume.

Despite his composed reputation, Andrey admitted mixed emotions after his win over Granzotto. “I’m feeling good. I’m happy I won my match, but I’m a little bit sad because I failed the hydration test,” he explained. Reports indicate he failed the test five times, missing the mark by less than one pound. “We are one pound, under one pound, and I’m drinking water all the time, and my hydration test didn’t turn out positive,” Andrey added.

He attributed the issue partly to illness. “I’m taking medication because I’m not good and don’t feel well when I arrived here, and yeah, maybe this made my hydration test not positive.” Despite the setback, Andrey remains confident looking ahead: “We’re going to train more, we’re going to study more, and I will come back stronger.”

Andrey also noted that failing the test was a first for him. “I make 66(kg). This is not a problem for me to make the weight; it’s my first time to fail the test, you know.”

ONE FN 40 takes place Friday, February 13, 2026, from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, promising a compelling matchup between two highly skilled featherweights.
