Rio de Janeiro hosted the 2026 ADCC South American Trials where five competitors earned their spots at the 2026 ADCC World Championships. As usual, the women might as well not have competed given that there are no invites handed out at the first trials – only at the second.
Among the most talked about outcomes of the weekend was the early exit of Charles Negromonte, black belt under Ze Radiola and a former member of Roger Gracie’s Association. Charles Negromonte lost to Franco Diaz by decision before even reaching the round of 16. It was a result that few had anticipated coming into the weekend.
In the other bracket of the bracket Roosevelt Sousa managed to get the coveted invite after the hot streak he’s on. Sousa won Worlds and Nogi Worlds in 2025.
Interest into doing the ADCC Trials seems to be substantially lower than years prior.
The competition as a whole seems to have peaked in 2022.
