A series of private text message exchanges made public this week confirms that Kyle Boehm has been permanently removed from 10th Planet San Diego following harassment allegations brought forward by a student identified as Jesse.

Jesse had previously spoken out publicly about what she described as inappropriate and predatory behavior in jiu-jitsu (10th planet Oceanside) and it appears that her decision to come forward produced tangible consequences.

Boehm was one of many to make disparaging remarks on Jesse’s viral post calling out abuse allegations along with Renzo Gracie even though neither were targeted by the post.

Jesse published a series of exchanges confirming Boehm’s departure.

Geo Martinez who leads the San Diego based gym reached out to Jesse directly via text to inform her of the decision.

“I banned Kyle from the gym, just wanted to let you know,” Geo wrote.

Jesse’s response revealed a more complicated picture. Rather than receiving the news as a resolution she explained that her confidence in the school had already eroded particularly following an encounter with Geo days prior.

“You mean Sue kicked him out? Honestly, after sleeping on everything, I would like to cancel my membership and no longer be associated with this school,” she wrote. “Given your accusatory and hostile response to me on the mat on Monday and blaming me, I realize this is a deeper issue than I can handle or want to pay $200 a month for. I no longer feel safe or welcome at this school, thank you.”

Geo pushed back on her reading of events clarifying who had taken action and acknowledging the personal cost of the decision.

“Jessie, I wasn’t trying to make you feel that way,” he replied. “Sue never talked to Kyle. I did and I told him that he can no longer train with us. I’m pretty sure he ha tes me now and that’s ok.”

Separately Jesse also exchanged messages with Sue. Sue’s communications described a gym in the process of restructuring its internal policies including outreach to outside professionals and potential updates to member agreements.

“I have already contacted an HR executive whom I respect very much to help me implement some training ASAP,” Sue wrote. “I am actually debating on adding a clause to our member agreements when people sign up that they must report any known ‘inappropriate behavior,’ or harassment of any other students by anyone. I just have to figure out the proper wording for that.”

Despite the stated commitments Jesse had already made her decision. In a message to Sue she reiterated her intention to leave the school.

“Hi Sue. After sleeping on everything, I would like to cancel my membership and no longer be associated with this school,” she wrote. “Given Geo’s accusatory and hostile response to me on the mat on Monday and blaming me, I realize this is a deeper issue than I can handle or want to pay $200 a month for. I no longer feel safe or welcome at this school, thank you.”

She closed out the exchange with a pointed final message:

“I hope that you are able to maintain the new changes your school claims to have made regarding new policies and especially the banning of a very predatory and unsafe person, Kyle Boehm to protect women and children and I wish your business the best.”

Sue’s reply struck a remorseful tone expressing regret over the way events had unfolded while extending the door for a possible future return.

“Good morning. I’m really sorry to hear that. I totally understand and respect your thoughts and concerns and wishes to cancel,” she wrote. “I hope one day you can give a little grace and understanding at the impact of a lack of experience and understanding of how to address things like this. That definitely does not make it OK. I can promise you we will be taking action and doing training and making sure that this does become the safest environment anybody could hope for. If it’s OK with you, I will stay in touch now and then to just advise of some of the changes and hope you will give us a try again sometime in the future. If you change your mind and want to just train with Adam or AJ even on a personal training level, please let me know and I will set that up. I am here with open doors for anything you need. Even with the other information you shared with me.”

On the matter of Boehm specifically Sue left no room for ambiguity:

“We absolutely are working to implement some changes and additional training for our team and even members. And he is 100% banned from our schools.”

Jesse shared the outcome publicly framing it as a rare moment of accountability in the broader jiu jitsu community.

“Kyle Boehm gets kicked out” she wrote. “Finally some positive change in the community!”

For Jesse the chapter with 10th Planet San Diego is closed though she made clear that she hopes the changes made in her wake will be lasting ones.
