A video out of Bali has drawn attention online after Indonesian MMA star Belda Sando used his Brazilian jiu-jitsu training to restrain a disruptive foreign national who had been harassing locals and tourists near a martial arts venue.
The footage shows Belda Sando calmly applying an RNC to bring the man to the ground without throwing a single strike. Once the situation was under control Belda Sando released him and walked away.
In posts shared to his social media account Belda Sando addressed the incident with candor. He described a scene of escalating disruption in the late night hours with the man grabbing women without consent, walking into oncoming traffic and stopping strangers.
Online response was broadly positive. Yet Sando felt compelled to apologize in new video.
Belda Sando addressed the issue directly.
“Bali is a beautiful place, and the people here are kind and respectful. That’s what we want everyone to experience. But respect goes both ways. I’m tired of seeing some foreigners come here and act without respect,” he said.
That frustration was reflected in the comments.
“We have been very nice to foreigners that come and think they can do whatever they want because they think they have money, disrespecting Bali. Their body is average bigger than us locals,” read one response.
His position was clear, wherever a person comes from respecting the laws, traditions and culture of the place they are in is a basic expectation, not an afterthought.
“Don’t bring bad behavior with you when you travel,” he said.
He closed with a note for anyone heading to the island.
“Let’s keep Bali the way it should be , good people, good energy. If you respect us, we respect you.”
